With the advances in technology, the incisions are a lot smaller. I use a microscope to do much of my surgery, and because its performed under a microscope, I can perform a whole operation under a smaller exposure. And what that means to a patient, is their recovery is faster. Their back to work, back to their family life: they get their life back a lot sooner, and its not this long drawn out recovery process.

The admitting hospital recommended Dr. Dorman, and so I came up the next day here, to Odessa. And, got to meet him for the first time. I have to say, we really hit it off the first time we met. He's a really personable person.

Within in 24 hours of my surgery, I was already back home. [Now] I'm up and happening. I went back to work one week after having my surgery.

I have three babies that are 19 months apart, and so I was constantly down on the floor, lifting them up, putting them down for bed, bending over giving baths. On top of that, I was at the gym working out, so I just thought maybe it was just my bad posture.

I feel 10 times better than I did before surgery. The incision has healed up tremendously. Even from the first time I looked at it, I knew, as a nurse myself, I knew that it was going to heal up great. The pain I felt before surgery...its amazing. I'm able to have life again. I am able to pick them up, play with them without that intense pain.

I couldn't move my fingers in my hand and my left arm was completely numb. ...I'm a national fiddle champion. It was very important for me to use my left fingers because of the instrument. I'm also a classical violinist, and so I have to use that hand for my profession. I just have to have the dexterity in this hand, and before my surgery, I didn't have it. And now I have all of my dexterity back.

I was very scared, I thought I wouldn't be able to play again, but all that changed with his help.

  • Osteoporosis Repair on the Spine
  • One Year After Surgery

The procedure I had done is an unsual procedure. They did an x-ray [on] my spine and it looked like it was moth-eaten. It had holes in it. If I had had any type of accident of any sort, that area which holds up your skull, would break off. Dr. Dorman at that time said that he had came up with an invention. It was a tool to go in, pull the biopsy from it, and then go ahead and try tp put the cement in there. I told him that was fine, let’s try it, it's never been done before. And it worked.

The recovery time, really, was really short. It really surprised me. And everything was great. You know, the pain was gone.

We tried everything we could without having to do surgery, and it just didn't work. But once we knew we were going to have to do some type of surgery, something to take care of it, he did a fantastic job, and he’s great.
