The artificial cervical disc is designed to maintain neck motion after a disc removal. Previously, degenerative disc disease was treated by removing the disc and fusing the two bones. With the artificial disc, the bones continue to move as before, thereby maintaining neck motion.
The microdisctomy is a procedure in which a lumbar disc surgery is performed under the microscopeallowing a much smaller incision. Recovery time is quicker than with conventional surgery and the patients often go home the same day and return to their job much sooner.
